Race report by Dave Phillips – One out of Two – 8/9 Feb.
Well just a 50% w/e so what a bummer. Blame the wind/rain/danger (?) + anything else.
Saturday.
The final League XC of the season at the stunning Lilleshall National Sports Centre near Telford was a real troublesome 4 lap 6ish mile event. Trouble with 4 laps meant that I was constantly being overtaken and lapped. At least I had company. Unlike the 3 lappers where laps 1 and 2 I usually have to myself! The conditions were just mud, mud, glorious mud with small lake like features to make things even worse. The “dry” bits were up the hill (4 times) so what more could you want? At least it wasn’t raining and the showers at the HQ were superb so the mud was left behind at least. But what a long drive back (c65 miles) with no stop at the usual pub this year.
Trouble is we got demoted so that pub won’t be on the plans for next XC season.
Once again I made sure that everyone finished so I won 1st prize for the season’s XC Sweeper.
Sunday.
I was about to leave home for the Draycote Water 10miler but I thought I’d just check that it was still on and to my chagrin it had been postponed to next week, same date as the final lmington10k which I’ve entered. So a blank Sunday this week (makes a change).
