Warwick University Cross Country

Massey Ferguson Running Club were back again at the Cryfield Sports Pavilion on Saturday 1st November 2025 for the Warwick University annual cross country relay races, sporting the fabulous red and white quarters.

We entered 2 Men’s Teams and 2 Ladies’ Teams consisting of 4 runners each. After arriving at the venue we had a few leg changes amongst our teams due to runners needing to shoot off afterwards, and then the race started promptly at 2:30pm.

It was a time chipped event with our first team runners carrying the baton around the fields, splashing through the big puddle, over the grass, mud and up the sharp incline back to the start.

The first Massey runner back was Martyn Rubery who swiftly handed over to John Clarke who was waiting with the other leg 2 runners. Next to arrive back was Niamh who completed her leg and handed her baton over to Carmel then closely followed by Philip McCarron for the Men’s B team who handed over to Stacey. Then Sheila came in and handed over her baton to Jo who was not just making her debut in cross country races but in relays too!.

After this, runners were coming in, thick and fast and the Men’s change overs were so rapid they even evaded my camera.

Martyn Brunt was next to return for the Men’s A team, followed by Joy, Renny and Felicity from the other teams. Steve Glaze then completed the race for the Men’s A team who finished in a very respectable 15th position overall.

Kevin came in next for his team putting in another strong performance, then it was Sue finishing for the ladies A team who finished 30th position overall and Alison completing her leg for the ladies B team.

As the event was hosted by Warwick University there were quite a few young competitors, some were freshers and some teams were in fancy dress costumes, this certainly added to the fun element of the day. However, Massey’s certainly proved that age is no barrier to success as our club gave the youngsters a run for their money! It was also lovely to have the support from fellow Massey runners at points around the course, cheering and taking photos as the sun shone brightly.

Everyone ran brilliantly and here are the individual times and results.
