East Midlands Grand Prix – Rugby 6 – Wed 17 May
The Rugby 6 is the third race in the series. The course has a steep decline shortly after the start before rising to pass over the M45 and the Oxford Canal.
It then runs parallel to the M45 towards the village of Barby before turning left at the halfway mark back over the M45 and the canal heading towards Hilmorton. After mile 4 there is a steep incline all the way to the 5 mile marker at Hilmorton which comes as a welcome relief after the climb. The marshall here was an old running rival from Rugby AC who shouted – Come on Martin – No pain, No gain. How true ! This encouraged me to make sure no one passed me on the last mile !
The Massey trio enjoyed a welcome pint in the rugby club bar.
