National Trust Colby Gardens 5k – 21.9.19

Race report by Dave Phillips.

Despite Pembs. probably being the windiest place in the UK this w/e, running on trails and paths 3 times in the woods and forests area at Colby we were at least protected from the gales.

Even so this 3 lapper has 4 hills each lap so just maybe a head on wind would have been easier than 12 “uphills”.

So 137 runners started at 0900 hrs and before I’d finished lap 1 the leaders passed me at great speed. What’s the hurry I thought? Just enjoy the woods and forest trails.

Finally lap 3 came about and at least no one passed me despite there being a few behind me.

Then the final hill and a long flat stony woodland trail to the finish where the café was open for coffees and bacon batches (or a full breakfast if needed). I drove back to Penally where Robina had my corn flakes on the table.

At least I was 1st in my age category (probably the only old “f****” there) and came 116th. Hope yet maybe.

Massey time:
