Illmington 10k – 21.01.24

Race report by David Phillips.

Well this was the 4th in the series of 5 and this time we ran in a clockwise direction. However the village had many road works in it and the traffic was all over the place but as usual I started off with 4 others at 0945 hrs so we were  in the lead for a long time! However after about 1k a huge wind blew in the village where I was on my own and several of the plastic traffic fences in the road all blew on me but fortunately I was OK and local people picked up the fences and put them back. Good start!

Then the route was all round the village until it started up the hill which just went up, up and up even more to the very top just past the 5k mark. This was a real killer of an uphill part of the course.

The good news was that it was nearly at the top so it was downhill for about 3 k but the road was slippery and very dodgy and many runners who were now passing me thought the same.

Then at 9k the road was dodgy and very wet and slippery with mud and many runners commented how weird it was. Good news was that slow running was the best way forward to the finish.

Then all the 299 runners had their bag of sausages and the usual food and drinks in the café in the sports hall.

So well done again Sarah and Rob of Tempo Events for a super morning event.

So just one more to go on 18/02/24 when all those who have done all 5 will be given the track suit top as the final prize so it’s well worth doing all 5.
