Grand Pier Half Marathon, Weston-Super-Mare – 6.11.16

Race Report by Katie Kingston

After a cold and frosty start to the morning, we gathered on the pier for the start. The route started on the pier, turned left to begin the first lap.

The first half towards Keystoke was undulating then returned running back to the pier followed by a flat second half along the sea front, which then turned back to the pier. This was then repeated for the second lap and finished finally at the entrance to the pier. There was a keen, cold north westerly wind which hindered and helped in turns.

Lots of friendly runners, reasonable support and organisation, although we have to question the four flights of stairs to the bag drop area! (Thank goodness Jonathan finished first and went to collect the bag to save my legs. Katie)

A good run even if it wasn’t quite as flat as we thought. The section along the toll road was pretty, but cold and shady whereas the part along the front was sunnier but with a cold wind.

We were both happy with our times, lovely green tee shirt and pretty medal.
