Centurion 5, Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham – 4.12.16

Race report by Dave Phillips.

Well what a week end. Friday evening Handel’s Messiah at Symphony Hall. Sat morning gardening and then the XC at the Welcome Hills in the afternoon. What a fabulous venue, tough course with stunning views-in fact what more could we ask for?

Then my Warwick School Old Boys’ Annual  Dinner in the evening.

Then Sunday off to Chelmsley Wood ( yes you have to take the rough with the smooth) for the 2nd in their 6 race series. As usual Sphinx, Kenilworth, Northbrook + me from Massey (as usual) plus others from local clubs making up the 100+ runners. But again a fabulous course around the lake, park and rivers in CW and all off road but on stoney paths. It was a 2 ½ lap course and very flat but completely isolated from Chelmsley Wood so no problems there. They say that if you do run on the roads and pavements round here do a PB and NEVER stop! The good thing was that I thought I was last until a Northbrook lady caught me up with a mile to go but no way was Massey going to be beaten by NB so the foot went on the pedal and I beat her by 30 seconds. Wow indeed.

Then the Christingle Service in our church to round off a great w/e.

So let’s see Massey here for the next one on 8/1/17.

Going back to my Welcome Hills comments I would love to do a Main Group training evening in the spring around the course (hills, reps, downhill sprints etc.) then to the pub after. Drinks are on me to those who dare to turn up! Plus Stratford Runners train there so do I hear a Match also on a 2 lapper?

Massey time:

Dave Phillips 56.24.

That’s 63 races this year so hope to do 68.
