Race reports by Dave Phillips.
It’s always a busy period with lawns, gardening, family, household duties and of course running the usual events down here. Despite the knee (X-rayed yesterday at Stratford hospital-no results yet) these races just had to be done even if I did wear my Pembrokeshire Harriers colours. When in Wales!!!!!!!!.
7.8.16 – Llanstephan MT event c2+miles.
This has always been a 5 miler mainly off road with much of it along the tidal estuary. But last year they got the tide times wrong and it was in so there was no riverside to run on so all sorts of problems. So they solved it by reducing it to a family fun run up and around the castle all on dry land. Trouble is not too many of us knew of the change and expected the usual run. No problems and it was great fun being beaten by so many mums and kids for the medal.
Time 26.30
9.8.16 – Poppit Sands 3 mile race.
This was the last of the series of 3 races of 2 laps along the trails, dunes, estuary and soft sandy beach at the estuary near Cardigan. Popular with holiday makers so with the kids run there were loads of runners all over the place.
The soft sand beach would be a great training place and in fact Pembs Harriers do train each Thursday on the dunes and beach at Broadhaven
Time 43.13
13.8.16 – Colby Gardens Woodlands 5k (parkrun on National Trust park).
Another well attended event with holiday makers doubling the usual number of 50 so I was overtaken by many people on the 3 lapper but hobbled round.
Time 37.48
14.8.16 – Cardigan 10k.
This is always a killer as the 1st half is all uphill. I started early and jogged/race walked much of it as I didn’t want to keep the marshals out too long! Only 45 entered it and we all got a packet of crisps + mars bar as a finishing memento-more than usual down there! Plus I came in the first 45 in the race!
Time 84.20 mins
17.8.16 – Massey Corporate 5.
Another early start for me but it had to be done for the 5 in 10 days.
Back in Pembs next week for the Fell Ras Beca race and a local 10k plus the Coventry 5 on Wednesday so as usual it should be 8 races in August. Hopefully the X ray result will mean Wolves marathon on 4/9 will be possible. Hmmm! I doubt it to be honest.
