Silverstone 10k – 9.5.18

Race Report by Martin Smith

East Midlands Grand Prix 2018 – Silverstone 10k – Wednesday 9th May

The Silverstone 10k is the first race in the EMGP 2018 series and is run over two laps of the Grand Prix circuit.

Start is on the Grand Prix start grid and finish is in the Pits !

Weather conditions were a lot cooler than that experienced by some of our runners over the Bank Holiday weekend.

1700 started compared to 1200 in 2017 so with the increased numbers Silson Joggers AC, the race organisers, had lead runners for those aiming to finish in 40 mins and at 5 min intervals thereafter.  Our Massey runners made sure they used the toilet facilities before the start so they did not require a pit stop after the first lap!

Ian Bourne had a great run knocking two minutes of his PB in a time of 44:32.

Graham Patton broke the track record for over 75’s by a minute in 48:27. Graham now holds three age group track records – for Over 60’s with a time of 35:06 in 2002 and for the Over 65’s with a time of 38:14 in 2008. Will Lewis Hamilton be able to do the same ? Well done, Graham.

For the ladies, our Eileen MacKenzie is 7th fastest female in the track records with a time of 34:47 set in 1995.

Full marks to Silson Joggers AC for their organisation utilising all the race track facilities – plenty of toilets, changing facilities, good spectator facilities, and efficient marshalling in getting all the cars out of the various car parks.

Put this race down in your diary for next year !
