Race report by Dave Phillips.
What can I say after this super event except well done to Kenilworth Runners and our ex Massey man Dave Pettifer who organised it. Huge field with c1500+ runners all on closed roads. So what more could I have wished for on my 360th half marathon? 40 to go then someone said so the maths is right I guess,
Super course but who said Kenilworth is a flat area? Even the bits around the town were up and up with a few flat bits. Then we had that super brass band playing brilliantly as we ran past them twice-well done all of you.
Lap 1 was great with the Castle part (my office lunchtime runs quite often) then through lovely lanes and all closed to cars and even the cyclists showed some respect. Eventually the town came into view and we passed the finish line on the RHS of the road (albeit with many finishers sprinting to the finish on the right). I remember (just) those 1.28 days.
Lap 2 was shorter but still had the main hills in it so speed was not the order of the day. At last the main street was in sight so a couple of hundred yards to go and job done.
Finally many of the Massey mob met at the pub by the finish and as last year we were presented with the prize as the club that had most entrants, Dave Pettifer presented me with a huge cut up cake which was soon eaten by the Red and Whites. Thanks again Dave and to all the Massey folks who helped eat it.
Massey time: Dave Phillips 2hrs 50 mins.
