Illmington 10k – 20.1.19

Race report by Dave Phillips.

This was the 4th in the series of 5 and today it was clockwise round the course. That means the uphill is neo vertical.

So the hooter sounded at 1030 for the very full field with 4 Red and Whites present (I think). Down into the village we ran then a long loop up and down until we reached the bottom of “that hill” at c3k. Then it was a real killer as it just so steep that running was almost impossible. Much steeper than the other side on the anti-clockwise route so not too much fun.

Eventually came the 6k mark and we were near the top where we turned right and ran along the ridgeway for a bit with stunning views for 360 degrees. This is the highest point in Warwickshire apparently-felt like it.

Eventually the downhill started (you go up this on the anti-clockwise run) and this was not too steep so life became almost normal but as always downhill running is never easy.

Then the 8k marker came into view and a bit later was the regular photographer from OxonFotos doing his bit. All photos are free and already they are on his website and there I am “alone”.

9k and more hills but at least the end was near then that Stratford lady runner passed me and thanked me for dragging her round-so I let her go!

The usual finish on the sports field and the usual pack of 4 sausages for all finishers. They are so good that I always buy some so an extra 4 packs are now in the deep freeze. Coffee and cakes in the club house made for a good day out.

Final race of the series is 17/02/19 so a must do.
