Illmington 10k – 18.2.18

Race report by Dave Phillips.

This was the 5th and final race of the series but what a killer this course is. Today’s run was on the anti-clockwise course with the 1st 4.5k nearly all uphill and most of the 204 runners were glad when the top was reached by the radio masts. I well remember this place as it was the 85 mile mark when Terry Harvey and I ran the whole of the Hilly 100 miler in 1994 in 29 hours. The memories linger on.

Then it was gently flat for 2K along the top before the steep descent back to the village but all was not over yet as the last 2.5k were uphill to the finish at the playing fields. So a real sting in the tail.

So what better way to spend a Sunday morning? At least we had sausages as the finishing memento so well done Tempo Events for another great series. In fact they had plenty of packs left over so I bought 5 more!

So that’s Illmington done ‘till the next series starts towards the end of the year.
