Illmington 10k – 17.11.24

Ilmington 10k 1030 hrs.17/11/24.

Race report by David Phillips.

Well 348 runners turned up yesterday at Ilmington for the 10k and this time it was clockwise. Trouble with this way round is that the hill to the top is almost vertical for nearly 2Ks so walking seemed to be only way up!

However the weather was good and the sun was out so all was OK on that count. The race started at 1030 and went round Ilmington on the usual roads and there was not much traffic so all was OK.

As usual I started early at 0930 so that I don’t keep the organisers there all day and this time no others were with me so I was the leader for a long time. Good news was that there was hardly any traffic so the roads were very good to run on even up the 2k vertical hill! In fact walking up a lot of it was part of the event!

Eventually the top came into view and when up there the views for 360 degrees were fabulous with many counties in view all around. The good thing was that from the top to the finish it was almost downhill until there were just 2ks to go then it was on the road and easy running to the finish.

Just 300 yards from the finish the leader from Stratford Runners sprinted past me which left me in 2nd place!! Hmmm. That’s because I started an hour earlier.

Then all finishers had the usual super sausage packs so well done Sarah and Rob the organisers from Tempo Events for doing everything as good as always.

The next race (3rd) of the 5 race series is December 15th so more sausages for 25/12! See you all there again.
