A Welsh Trilogy!

Well fresh from the Swiss Alps and the Alpine marathon last week, what better place to go to finish our hols than in our Pembrokeshire pad in Penally for a few days. And what a few days it was with gardening, agricultural shows, running a plenty and The Choir.

Saturday 1/8/15 Colby Woodland Gardens 5k.

This is a cracker of a Park Run boosted on Sat with holiday makers from all over the place for the jog 3 times around the National Trust Colby Estate. All on rough tracks with the leaders lapping many of us who were taking in the beauty of the place at a “kind to the body pace”. Why rush in such a gorgeous place someone said to me-those leaders don’t see what we see I bet. That was until they did there cooling down lap and passed us for the 2nd (or 3rd?) time.

Seriously if anyone is in Pembrokeshire you must do this weekly Park Run near Amroth.

Sunday 2/8/15 Brecon 10 mile road race.

Well Brecon is c 75 miles from Penally so a 150 mile round trip from Penally for a 10 mile run seemed the norm for me despite Robina thinking I was mad. But I’ve done this race since the late ‘80s so how could I miss it?

It’s an out and back course with a mile loop near half way and as the Advice Notes said “it’s downhill for the 1st half”-so no need to carry on what the 2nd half is like, Yep all uphill but in the shadows of the stunning Brecon Beacons all the way-fortunately not over them.

So a toughie if ever there was one but at least the finish on the Penlan Race Track was flat.

Great medal and T shirt for us all so a day well spent.

Tuesday 4/8/15.

Tenby Male Voice Choir with whom I am well acquainted and sometimes sing with (and will join some day) had a concert at St John’s Church Tenby. Fabulous Welsh music and as always they invite members of the audience who are in other choirs (I’m in 3) to join them for the final pieces. This week it was The American Trilogy, Morte Christe and the Welsh National Anthem. So there I was in the front row of the choir singing to a packed audience.

So whether it’s an American or Welsh Trilogy it was a stunning climax to the week.
