The final race of the 2024-2025 Midland Women’s League XC season took place last Saturday, hosted by Sphinx AC and Northbrook AC at Coombe Abbey Country Park.
This race was a significant moment for the ladies’ team, and we had 14 fantastic women competing in the event. A special mention goes to Claire Coventry, who made her debut appearance for the team, adding new energy and enthusiasm to the group. Additionally, Brenda Lee received a well-deserved 10th appearance award, and Zoe Moore celebrated her 25th appearance with the team—an impressive milestone that showcases her dedication. Lyn McDonald also played a key role in supporting the event, volunteering as an official recorder for both the ladies’ and men’s teams, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
The race itself consisted of a 4-mile course, with 2 small laps followed by a larger lap. The weather was damp and cold, typical for cross-country, but overall, the conditions were favourable. The course was relatively flat, and the ground was slightly muddy, with one notable highlight: it almost remained sheep-free this year! The ladies gave their all during the race. Zoe Moore was the first counter across the line, followed by Sue Leonard in second, and Joy Woolass in third. Niamh Ling claimed the fourth counter spot, rounding out the team’s strong performance. The team members worked together, pushing hard, and supporting each other through the challenging conditions.
We would also like to extend our thanks to the following women who completed the course with great effort and determination: Mel Geddes, Claire Coventry, Amanda Govern, Joanna Kisiala, Emma Eastwood, Debbie Davies, Alison Lowe, Sheila Johnson, Carol Martin, Sam Nicholson, and Brenda Lee.
At the end of the race, the ladies’ team placed 15th overall, while the Masters team secured a solid 7th place finish. The provisional results show the team finished 13th in the overall standings and 7th in the Masters category, demonstrating the consistency and strength of the group throughout the season.
We couldn’t be prouder of the ladies for their performance and the camaraderie they’ve shown all season. Thank you to everyone involved for making this season a success!
