Worcester Pitchcroft 10k – 26.5.19

Race report by Dave Phillips.

This is a super event (not done it for c20 years) and the course follows the boundary of the Worcester Race Course on paths so it is 100% traffic free. It’s a 3 lapper and probably the flattest race anywhere and that’s probably why the winner did it in 32.52.

The usual 4 Massey ladies parked next to me in the race course car park so the R&W Team Photo was a “must do”-a rose between 4 thorns?

Then the  start by the grandstand at 1100 hrs saw 188 runners run off in an anti-clockwise direction following the “place where horses go” but fortunately we didn’t have to jump the hurdles. Glad I’m not a horse!

There were the usual dog walkers joining us but no problems at all.

As I finished lap 2 there were already lots who had finished so lap 3 was lonely but enjoyable as I plodded round for the final fling.

At the 9km marker I heard a grunting behind me (so I wasn’t last) but then this chap overtook me so things looked dodgy but there was a lady behind me chatting away so I got a move on and just beat her-she was last. Phew-but who cares? Another one done and a great medal for all finishers. Also there was a kids 1 lap race at the start so well done Worcester AC for all of  this.

Massey results:

119 Cathy Keay 54.13

146 Sonia Karamat 59.44

171 Brenda Lee 68.48

172 Joanne Pinches 69.11

187 Dave Phillips 76.50

Next week Rhine Ruhr ½ marathon Duisburg, Germany.
