Race report by Dave Phillips.
Around 2,000 of us assembled at the race HQ in the usual Cassiobury Park and at 1030 the gun went and we were off. I’ve done this c30 times I think and in the good old days there were at least a dozen from Massey there competing with the hosts Watford Joggers who also wear red and white squared tops just like ours. So confusion always used to reign. Just 2 of us today.
The course is on traffic free country roads and lanes going through beautiful countryside and superbly marshalled throughout-as always.
The usual things happened to me. At mile 1 the usual marshal said “hello Massey”. Later on a lady marshal asked me “are you from Massey?”. Then a marshal jumped in the road and said “hoping you were here Mr. Phillips”. He was an ex Massey man who moved to Watford many years ago. Then at the end a marshal asked if I was a Watford Jogger so I gave him the Massey side of things. So great fun at the back of the pack!
Mind you it is a killer of a course and every year I report that there are as many hills as miles and no change there today-13 hills- and the last one is 800 mtrs long to the finish back in the park.
I enjoyed the solitude in lovely countryside so roll on next year-again! Plus the super medal and T shirt to add to the collection.
Massey time :
Dave Phillips 3.00 (361st half-getting there).
