Warwick Annual Christmas Day Run – 25.12.18

Warwick Annual Christmas Day 3.4 mile run.

Race report by Dave Phillips.

Well this event now in its 50th consecutive year attracted the usual bunch of local runners from Leam, Ken, Spa Striders, Massey (only 2 this year Graham Patton and me) and the holiday makers and “dog runners”. 60 of us in fact including one blind lady who was led round by a friend.

The course is 4 laps of St. Nicholas Park with the long stretch alongside the river Avon so what a better way to kick off Christmas Day at 1030 a.m.?

The registration was at the Roebuck Inn in Smith Street where free coffee and goodies were laid on by the owner and also there was a collection charity box for Myton Hospice but the race was a no charge event and you just wrote your name on sheet of paper and helped yourself to a number. Oh so simple and of course being in a park no permission or license needed. We were in fact “guests” of Leamington Runners out for a jog (true in my case).

Then a short stroll to the park and off for the 4 laps. It wasn’t too long that the winner lapped me as did many of his followers but there is no rush on 25/12 is there? So I enjoyed the scenery, swans, geese and water birds more than most!

So a most pleasurable run for the umpteenth time for me and then back to the Roebuck for more coffee, chocs, results, prize giving and by now the bar was open!

So that’s 55 races this year so not too bad I guess.
