MFRC Corporate 5k – 16.8.17

Race Report by Michael Hammond

I have been a proud member of  Massey Ferguson Runners Club, since I joined in January 2017 to take part in the 10 week RaceFit course . I have been impressed by the friendly and encouraging atmosphere that is present at all training sessions, and runs . It also helps that the red and white running vest is probably the most attractive that turns up to events around the Country. Taking part in the Masseys’ Corporate 5K was a no brainer… yet another great medal to add to the collection.

The challenge of finding a group of people to encourage to make up teams was one I didn’t have to think about too long. I am not working at the moment (looking after my mum full time) but I have been involved with The Criterion Theatre in Earlsdon for twenty one years ! Acting in around fifteen productions, volunteering behind the bar, and more recently becoming involved in Stage Management (A Steady Rain is at the Criterion from 2-9 September).

From conversations I have had with colleagues there, I knew that there is a thriving community of runners at the Theatre… and  having seen Lukasz Nowaki sprint to the finish line at Parkrun Coventry in under 26 minutes he was my first target to get to join ‘The Criterion Dream Team’.  Anne Marie Greene runs for the Earlsdon running club and has a PB better than mine…so I didn’t hold it against her .

It was really nice to get the Criterion members witnessing the great atmosphere of a Masseys’ event..and they both enjoyed themselves. I wasn’t feeling ‘on it’ when racing , and had to walk a few times.

The turn out  on the night was very impressive, and the bottles of wine seemed to be a hit with all the prize winners.
