Lliswerry 8 miler, Newport Wales – 31.01.16

What would a normal person do on his or her birthday on Sunday 31st Jan ’16? Get up later, go out for lunch or dinner, open the cards and pressies, have more than a few drinks or go to Llyswerry? Well a bit of a no brainer really so I drove the 2 hour journey to Lliswerry to join 700 others in the 8. Mind you I do this every year around this time so nothing new there.

It’s claimed to be the flattest run on the planet and I agree. It meanders around the country desolate lanes in what is the equivalent to the Somerset Flats with drained arears everywhere between Newport and Cardiff and also near the coast.

The HQ was at Newport County FC’s ground with all the facilities you could wish for-even the Velodrome next door for “something extra” if you wished.

The run was on country routes and to make sure nothing went wrong, 130 marshals and officials were in charge from start to finish. Well done indeed Lliswerry Runners.

So no problems there except for some strange reason I didn’t pre-book, as always in the past you could sign up on the day. This year it sold out by 2/10/15 and it only went online on 1/10/15. So I jogged round “numberless” and had a great day. So 1/10/16 is diary dated for registration for 2017. Anyone coming?
