Ilmington 10k – 21.11.21

Race report by David Phillips.

Well what a great event this was for the 289 runners who took part in the 2nd race in the 5 race series, so well done again to the organisers Rob and Sarah of Tempo Events.

The weather was sunny, coolish and windy but dry so no problems there. The main problem was that this race went clockwise (changes each time) which means that the uphill section is almost vertical-or so it seemed and it goes on a long way. Then it becomes an uphill drag to the top at about 6k at the highest place in Warwickshire. As usual the views were spectacular and then the downhill drag started for about 3k so no real problems here.

Finally at the bottom with just 1k to go we went up again for a short while until the club and finish line were in sight so job nearly done.

Some of us started 20 minutes before the main race which meant we were leading for about 5k then they all started to overtake us but at least we were not on our own for the last 5k so we saw many of our friends from other clubs so a really pleasant event. At least because I started early there were loads of runners around me most of the time.

As usual free sausages for all finishers and the usual café serving drinks and lovely food in the pavilion at the finish area.

Race 3 is on 27th December-anti clockwise.

Massey results:

59th Alan McDougal 48.35.

230th Alison Lowe 1.07.29.

287th David Phillips 1.26.58 (2nd in age category and oldest in race!!-and almost slowest but who cares? Keeps me off the streets!).
