Race report by Dave Phillips.
This ever popular event known affectionately as the DKUK10K take place from Dudley rugby club and around 800 runners took part last night with a 1915 hrs start. A huge event for an evening race and I have been doing this for c25 years now. Trouble was when I got my kit bag out of the car I realised that I had left my running shoes at home so I had to jog round (painfully) in what I had on-ordinary cushion less hard leather/plastic soled casual shoes. That’ll teach me!
As usual the lanes were closed to traffic so well done the police and DK Running Club. Despite being near DK it really is a lovely course all in the country, through wooded lanes near streams and the canal so what more could you want?
Well as I’ve said before just maybe a few less hills as it is an undulating run from start to finish. But that seems the norm these days for me. In the good old days we used to get a glass wine goblet (made locally) at the finish line but now it’s the usual Tech.T Shirt to add to the houseful that I have never worn. It was getting darkish when we finished but as the roads were closed we were all safe.
It’s such a great event with the rugby club bar open all the time that maybe we should check our handicap dates next year. It’s always the 1st Tuesday in May.
