Dudley Kingswinford 10k – 04.05.16

Race report by Dave Phillips.

Affection ally known as the DKUK10K this for me was the 3rd hilly/undulating race in 4 days so job done ‘till the weekend. It’s a hugely popular event with >1,000 runners starting at the HQ at Dudley rugby club (where I also had a few tough encounters as a hooker in the “good old days” playing for Kenilworth).

The course is all on country lanes and closed to traffic for the event which says something for its popularity. Open spaces, along-side the golf course, through wooded stretches in fact you wouldn’t think that DK was just up the road and over the hills.

At 2k and 8k we crossed the canal by the Navigation pub where masses of supporters (all plied with the local brew), shouted their support so a real DK welcome greeted us-noisier at the 8k of course. Really felt like popping in for a pint but they don’t give credit anywhere near DK.

I’ve been doing this for more years than I can recall and it was tradition for the memento to be a wine goblet made by one of the local glass companies and suitably engraved. Have loads at home. Sadly now it’s a Technical T shirt-whatever Tech means.

Anyway roll on 2017-maybe the glass will return.

At least Hereford half this w/e should be flattish.

Massey time:

Dave Phillips 66.23 (17 secs slower than last year-longer course? steeper hills?).
