Race report by Dave Phillips.
An almost full house with around 485 starters on a very cold and windy morning on the banks of this wind swept reservoir. Plus there were 8 Massey runners there so plenty of good company and well done all.
The start was an out and back jaunt along the path on side of the lake but the return part was really tough and straight into the teeth of the very strong wind. Then the clockwise route started which was a complete circumnavigation of the lake but all on solid roads and paths so no real problems there.
However although the roads followed the edge of the lake from a directional point of view they kept on rising up into the hillsides making it quite a challenge.
Eventually we got to the far end of the lake in a very exposed spot where the wind was horrendous and for the last 2k forward motion was difficult.
But 477 of the starters did finish to collect their medal, T shirt and goodie bag so all worthwhile in the end.
Another water/lake/reservoir run for me next Sat at Rhayader, Powys for the Elan Valley 20. Now this is a toughie so let’s hope that wind goes away. Massey Runner results can be found here.
