Draycote Water 10 and 20 Mile – 23.9.18

Race report by Dave Phillips.

There was a good turnout by the red and whites plus a few unknowns! On closer examination we realised they were from Watford Joggers who also wear similar vests to ours but it added to the passion when you go hell for leather to catch and beat the red and white in front (and gloat afterwards) only to find out that it was a Watford runner. Happy days.

It was really cold, wet and windy when I got to the car park so full clothing + plastic rain cover was the order of the day for my 20 mile jog. However the rain stopped just as we started at but the wind was relentless especially for the 1st half of each lap. Would have been easier to swim that bit I reckon.

It’s a lovely course round the reservoir with walkers and cyclists for company, plus the runners from both races who kept overtaking me with the usual chat. Mind you the path is hilly in several places so 4 times these hills added to the occasion.

The one problem with a 4 lapper is that you know exactly what’s coming, the scenery never alters so the last 3 laps were a bit repetitious but all the time the countdown was on with one less to do each time we passed the finish area.

Lap 4 was lonely as I didn’t see any other runners, not even the 4 behind me but that’s how it is and at least I get value for money these days being out there longer.

Draycote is a fabulous place with fishing, sailing, wind surfing, cycling, walking and running plus s great café where some of us enjoyed the food and drinks afterwards.

So well done the Race Organiser for this and we will be back for your many other events there.

Massey Time:

Dave Phillips 4.48.

There was a 5 hrs time limit (although it said 4 hrs in the information-an error) and a few Massey ladies and I waited for the last few to arrive so well done everyone.

Pembrokeshire half at Dale next w/e-follows the Pembrokeshire coast which only goes one way and that’s upwards.
