Chelmsley Wood 5 miles – 6.1.19

Race report by David Phillips.

Well what a better way to kick off 2019 with a “double”.

Yesterday (Saturday) was the Massey XC Winter handicap at Newbold Common with loads of other Park Runners (so I wasn’t last), and today (Sunday) was the 3rd of the Chelmsley Wood Centurion Runners series of 6 races.

It was great weather for the 131 runners-most from local clubs so it really was (as always) a friendly event . There were 6 Red and Whites and I made sure that I stayed towards the back to ensure that all of our 5 ladies finished. True honestly!

It’s a 2 and a half lap course on tracks and trails round the lake and river in the parkland and believe it or not you could hardly see any buildings, roads or traffic. Just a few dog walkers and water birds a plenty. This time I didn’t stop to feed them though. Next time on race 4 on Feb. 3rd maybe I will-great fun.

It’s also a very flat course and today it was very dry and no mud so all in all an enjoyable way to start the year.

Then afterwards as usual in the HQ at the John Henry Newman College there was the prize giving (2 Massey ladies won prizes) and the free raffle for wine, chocolates and goodies (no Massey winners).

Massey results:

Marie Edmunds – 33,50 Prize Winner.

Jessica Rexworthy – 37.03.

Niki Carter – 43.27. Prize Winner.

Cathy Keay  – 43.32.

Sonia Karamat – 47.53.

Dave Phillips – 63.04.
