Centurion Grand Prix Series, 5 miler, Chelmsley Wood
Race report by Dave Phillips.
Well a good start to 2017 with 2 races in 2 days. Mind you yesterday’s Warwickshire XC at Newbold Common Leamington was a toughie because of the non-stop mud, ditches and hills for every yard of the 3 lapper.
Good news was that I got my hat trick for coming last for the 3rd successive year in the combined Wrks and Worcs XC champs. A collector’s item or what? Some wise guy in the pub afterwards introduced me as “the slowest old fart in the 2 counties”.
Anyway today’s was flat and on trails/paths two and a half times round the lake and river parkland course. Mind you I was a bit knackered from yesterday. But in fact it was so nice (swans, geese and ducks for company) that you would never guess that you were in Chelmsley Wood, so I decided to run slowly to enjoy the nature! The usual gang from Sphinx, Kenilworth, Northbrook were there but again just the lone Massey Runner. Think we ought to check the dates of their 6 race series so that we don’t clash because they are very friendly and always have a free raffle draw afterwards in the college HQ with at least 10 prizes each time. Still to win one mind you.
Another double next w/e with XC and Stratford 9 so getting used to it now.
Next Centurion dates are 5/2, 5/3 and 2/4 and £6 to enter each race.
