Race Report by Martin Smith
East Midlands Grand Prix – Banbury 5 – Tuesday 6 June
Race 5 of the Series was based at Banbury Academy on the outskirts of the town. The course was similar to that of the Rugby 6 in that the first mile was downhill through a residential area before turning left into the country where the course meandered for two miles along an undulating road.
Sadly some drivers were not amused that road runners were blocking their route and were driving far to fast even though it was a B road, before braking hard when oncoming traffic was met. Interestingly the culprits were BMWs, Audis, and Range Rovers !
At Broughton we turned left and climbed mostly for mile four to reach the Bloxham Road where it was level for the last mile to the finish. Here we had to run along the pavement as the Bloxham Road (the A361) was busy with traffic. 15 years ago it was safe enough to run on the road ! How traffic has grown !
