Race report by Dave Phillips
I seem to have been doing this for ever from its many venues but all in all it’s a good event. Just found a 1993 medal hanging up in the kitchen but that was not my 1st Sneyd.
Plenty of red and whites were here today doing one or other of the races. The 5 was a single lap and the 10 a 2 lapper-but quite lonely towards the rear.
There was a mass start from the Sports HQ and soon we were on the paths alongside busy main roads so it was very crowded. A brief respite as we went through an almost traffic free housing estate then onto the rough path along the main road (with loads of strewn rubbish and litter).
We were out in the country for much of the run to 4 miles but with just non-stop traffic so keeping to the rough and flooded path was a must.
Eventually the final turn came just past the 4 mile mark and took us off the main road down a large road through an old part of the town with large old houses all around so not a bad finish.
Then we got our medals and strolled 300 yards to the HQ where we were given our T Shirts, goodie bag, bananas and Christmas Pudding (just a bit larger than a mince pie). Smallest I’ve ever seen but never mind. There were also loads of cakes and mince pies on sale so my bag was full to overflowing.
Then cold showers and back down the M6.
Guess we’ll be back next year.
