Well done to the 12 ladies and 18 men who represented Massey Ferguson in 6 teams at the Midland Counties Relays on Saturday. Sutton Park hosted another great event for running clubs across the region, and a chance to qualify for the National Relays on 8th October.
The men started their race at 1:15pm, and it was great for MFRC to have 3 complete teams competing this year, which is the maximum allowed. This allows us to field a competitive team of the 6 quickest runners, but also means we have runners of all abilities having the opportunity to take part in this great club event. Pete Freedman got the ‘A’ team off to a great start coming in 9th out of a field of over 100, but it was a pace we would be unable to sustain throughout the race!
The ladies started at 1:40pm for their 4 leg competition, and again we had 3 teams of runners which was brilliant to see and also allowed runners of all abilities to participate. With 6 Massey runners around the course there was lots of encouragement at crossover points, switch backs and the occasional overtaking! The Massey support on the course was fantastic as ever, with the roar on the finishing line helping to pull everyone up the last hill to the end.
With the good weather, and mixing with other friends from local clubs I think everyone had a great day out, with some excellent individual performances throughout the race. Massey men were unable to repeat their exploits in the 12 stage race earlier this year, and qualify for the national finals but finished a respectable 42 out of 96, with the ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams finishing in 66th and 86th respectively. The ladies ‘A’ finished 46th out of 86 teams, with ‘B’ and ‘C’ finishing in 74th and 77th. Details of individual times below.
Many thanks to everyone who ran, as well as all the supporters who came and helped with the organisation on the day. A great start to the new running season, and some promising performances before the Cross Country races begin next month.
Many thanks
